A free Tools app for Android
Pandora Internet Radio is an application for the streaming and recommendation of music. The service is designed to provide songs according to the user's tastes: as the user votes for or against specific songs, it will record the resulting data and use it to provide other songs.
Pandora contains a number of radio stations which are specially curated around a specific theme or genre. It is also possible for a user to create their own radio station, which will play music according to their own personal tastes. Simply go to the Stations list, and click "Create Station" to begin the process.
If you want to ensure that your Pandora station is running as well as possible, there are a few tricks you can use. One is to make sure you upvote or downvote songs, so that the software has a better chance of gauging your tastes. You can also look at feeds and shared stations as a way of finding new music.
The basic Pandora is free to run, and is ad-supported. While this has the obvious benefit in coming with no fee attached, some users may wish to branch out and subscribe to the paid services Pandora Plus or Pandora Premium.
Pandora Plus and Pandora Premium are services that require paid subscriptions, but offer more content than the basic Pandora. Pandora Plus allows you to replay tracks, listen to stations offline, and experience higher-quality audio. Pandora Premium has all of these features along with the ability to find and play songs on-demand, a removal of timeouts, customisable playlists and increased options for offline listening.
Pandora was not designed for the purposes of listening to individual songs; rather, it was created as a means of listening to similar music through the station feature. However, Pandora Premium does allow you to listen to individual tracks on demand.
On the Now Playing screen, touch the artwork for the album and then touch the Share icon. This will present you with a list of options for sharing the station or track across a range of social media.
A Pandora profile is the area which documents your listening activity, stations, likes, and people you are following or are following you. It is a useful way of recording data about your tastes in a way that will not influence Pandora's recommendations system.
The Music Genome Project is a project that has been going on since 1999 in an attempt to organise all forms of music using a mathematical algorithm to compare and contrast different styles. Pandora uses the Music Genome Project to power its recommendation system.
Pandora does contain a number of podcasts. However, as it is geared primarily towards music, the service does not contain a great variety of podcasts and this is unlikely to change during the foreseeable future.
